ONLINE NEW MEDIA WORKS CURATED BY CAITLIN FISHER
The new media works brought together for this festival represent a wide range of practices and ways of thinking about urban landscapes. Some projects here use out-of-the box software solutions to build projects – interactive online experiences, visual essays, small linear filmic pieces with multiple points of entry and flash projects with a super8 feel. Other projects answer the call to talk about space by offering spatial hypermedia projects – a city to wander through, evidence to examine – environments that challenge traditional viewing/reading practices and perform space at the level of code. Still others take up space at a thematic level – the space of on-line commerce, the difference cell phone technology makes to space and community, an invitation to explore the relationship between interface and database through interaction with a huge catalogue of images gathered by webcam while biking through city streets. We hope you’re inspired by the ways in which these artists have used new technologies to represent, think through and create
new spaces.
